What is Breathometer?

Breathometer is a personal breathalyzer attachment for smartphones. The device is no bigger than a keychain. You plug it into your phone, use the companion app, and blow. Your blood alcohol level will be revealed, and if youโ€™re over the legal limit, itโ€™ll even call you a cab, suggest nearby hotels, and notify friends or family.

Did They Strike a Deal?

Yes, in a rarity, Charles Yim struck a deal with all 5 sharks for the episode: Robert Herjavec, Kevin Oโ€™Leary, Mark Cuban, Lori Greiner, and Daymond John. The deal was for โ€‹โ€‹$1,000,000 for 30%.

Shark Tank Recap

Kevin Oโ€™Leary had questions about liability, but Charles said that nothing is a replacement for good judgment. Lori Greiner blew into the Breathometer after Charles served the sharks champagne before his pitch. Mark Cuban sensed an opportunity and acted fast, offering $500,000 for 20%.

Then, Kevin offered $250,000 for 15%. Next, Robert, Kevin, and Lori teamed up to offer $750,000 for 30%. Daymond offered $250,000 for 10% and unlimited manufacturing. Finally, Kevin proposed that all 5 of them do the deal together for $1 million. They eventually agreed on the 30%, and the deal was made.

Post Shark Tank, they had a few followup episodes showing the companyโ€™s successes, including a Bluetooth version of the Breathometer called The Breeze.

No, they are not in business โ€“ at least not with Breathometer. It was on the market from 2013-2015, but legal trouble and other issues halted production. In 2015, the company pivoted to market Mint, an oral health analyzer.
